Background of the Study

Mobile health (mHealth) interventions have emerged as effective tools for supporting cardiac patients by providing remote monitoring, medication reminders, and health education. These digital solutions help bridge the gap between healthcare providers and patients, particularly in regions with limited healthcare access.

In Adamawa State, where healthcare facilities are often scarce in rural areas, mHealth interventions can improve adherence to treatment, promote self-care, and enhance patient outcomes. However, despite their growing use, the effectiveness of these interventions in supporting cardiac patients remains largely unexplored.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of mHealth interventions in improving cardiac patient management in Adamawa State, focusing on patient engagement, medication adherence, and overall health outcomes.

Statement of the Problem

Cardiac patients in Adamawa State face challenges such as long distances to healthcare facilities, lack of regular follow-ups, and limited health literacy. mHealth interventions have the potential to address these issues, yet their effectiveness in this region has not been fully assessed.

There is a need to determine whether mHealth interventions improve adherence to treatment plans, enhance patient self-management, and reduce hospital visits. This study will evaluate the impact of these digital health solutions on cardiac patient care.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the impact of mHealth interventions on medication adherence among cardiac patients.
  2. To evaluate the effectiveness of mHealth interventions in improving patient self-care management.
  3. To identify challenges in implementing mHealth interventions in Adamawa State.

Research Questions

  1. Do mHealth interventions improve medication adherence among cardiac patients?
  2. How do mHealth interventions influence self-care management among cardiac patients?
  3. What are the challenges in implementing mHealth solutions in Adamawa State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. mHealth interventions significantly improve medication adherence among cardiac patients.
  2. There is a positive relationship between mHealth use and self-care management.
  3. Poor digital literacy and network limitations hinder the effectiveness of mHealth interventions.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on cardiac patients using mHealth interventions in Adamawa State. Limitations may include differences in digital literacy levels and technological infrastructure challenges.

Definitions of Terms

  • mHealth: The use of mobile technology to deliver healthcare services and patient support.
  • Self-Care Management: Actions taken by patients to manage their health conditions independently.
  • Medication Adherence: The degree to which patients take prescribed medications correctly.
